Shikhondo: Blue Pieta is a fantasy bullet-hell shooter that takes the series into side-scrolling action. A rookie grim reaper follows a mysterious Youkai across the ocean and meets a vampire hunter in a foreign city. Together, they face supernatural enemies across urban stages including a metropolis, an amusement park and a subway station. Its Soul Collect system rewards close calls: grazing enemy bullets charges a gauge that can be unleashed to turn a dangerous encounter into an opportunity to increase your score. Carefully navigating dense patterns is as important as attacking, encouraging you to balance survival against the temptation to take greater risks. The hand-drawn presentation and fully voiced protagonists bring the supernatural setting to life, while the new horizontal battlefield gives the series a different rhythm from its earlier vertical-scrolling entries.
